Lab[Mat] is attached to the Department of Painting and Conservation-Restoration of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University (UCM). Lab[Mat] was built in 2004 on the initiative of the Research Group UCM-930420 “Techniques of Documentation, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage”. Head of the invetigation group: Margarita San Andrés Moya).

Lab[Mat] is specialised in the study of cultural goods and works of art through the use of micro-destructive analytical techniques, as well as is the design and development of protocols for the study of materials used in preventive conservation and restoration treatments.

Lab[Mat] has implemented a Quality Management System certified under ISO 9001: 2015 (Certification ES16 / 21122) and is suject to the UCM quality policy. In addition, it is integrated into the Network of Laboratories and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid (Lab 397). It is also part of the Network of Laboratories in Science and Technology in Heritage Conservation (TedLabPat) of the Heritage Cluster of the CEI-Moncloa International Campus of Excellence.
